There was one question that I answered incorrectly because the correct answer was missing. Where you ask about allowing people to connect — people you know in person or via phone — that should include people you know online (or perhaps that should be its own category). Most of my contacts in all my social network sites are people I met via blogging.

I think niche social networking sites are going to be more valuable for forming genuine, productive relationships.

Thanks to websites such as http://www.ning.com, anyone can create a focused, niche community based on a particular interest, vocation or hobby.

Search engines like http://findasocialnetwork.com help people find these niche social networks and promote them.
