There may be an alternative here.  Why not a business sabbatical?  This bold, not-so-new initiative is growing within corporate ranks and gaining momentum.  If the company is no where near ready to do this, you can ask your employer for a sabbatical.  Sabbatical experiences are dizzying in ways they can be put together - paid or self-funded, 4 weeks or 4 months, unrestricted vs. restricted (restricted means your company has as say in what you might do.)  Regardless, stay or escape situation has this option to consider.
