I have great two pronged solution that will alleviate this problem.

1. MONEY (and lots of it)
2. FLEXIBILITY

That's about it.

I have worked 10 jobs between the ages of 18-28 and the BEST job I had was working my own side gig. I made more money in two days in the entertainment industry than I made working the whole week. No wonder I left the corporate world and opened my own business.

I wonder if it's because as we get older, we just learn that every job has goods and bads...our expectations are lower?

On the other hand, Gen Y seems to be much less tolerant of glossy marketing that doesn't pan out, and many hiring systems are just that - glossy marketing paths to jobs where the truth about the work is only available 60-90 days after hire (when the honeymoon is over).

I believe if employers were a bit more flexible with their younger workers with arrival time and incorporating them better into the team that the attitude would change. And in reality, does it really matter if a person comes in at 8:15 instead of 8 sharp??

Gen Yers as a group have been raised much differently than any other generation, and the workplace must adjust to their new priorities and ideas. There is a very interesting book that you may want to check out called: Why Work Sucks, and How to Fix It. It examines a more flexible structure in the workplace, and has been successfully implemented at Best Buy.
