Whether the unemployment report reflects a long-term downturn or a blip, I think America should invest more in its public education. With the right skills and self- confidence, people can weather unemployment shifts, retool if needed, and find new, good paying jobs. To compete for work here in the US or abroad, people need nimble analytical skills coupled with creativity (both of which can be taught and nurtured in our public schools). It may take a generation for our country to see the benefit of this investment, but we can't afford to wait any longer.
